Langthorne Community Junction
Langthorne Community Junction will be a new civic space offering local residents and visitors to the nearby Langthorne Health Centre and Downsell Primary School a place to explore and enjoy their local public landscape.
Langthorne Community Junction will also serve as an improved civic identity for the area, and a playful addition to Cathall Ward, suitable for all users. The new public space will be transformed into a stepped landscape consisting of different textures and colours with the addition of a new tree and subtle lighting.
The structural elements of the project will be constructed of brick; a material that was used extensively in the former Temple Mills Railway Yard, historically a key employer in the area. The final design for the site has been informed by workshops held at Downsell Primary School and developed in conjunction with local construction students at Waltham Forest College working with decorative bricklaying techniques. Langthorne Community Junction seeks to acknowledge the rich history of the area, to celebrate the skills and imagination of its residents, and to create a place which residents are proud to use.
Drop in Community Consultation Friday 21st September 3.30 – 6.30pm
On Friday 21st September local residents joined designers New Practice to discuss future plans for a new public space on the corner of Langthorne Road and Brierley Road in Cathall ward. Local residents shared their ideas and feedback on the developing designs over free tea and coffee.
The designers have been working with teachers and parents from Downsell Primary School to develop the design.
